DoubleChai.com: A Place for Jewish Widows and Widowers

I was quite enthusiastic when I heard about this organization from a friend. I have been exceeedingly lonely since my wife passed and I was hoping to communicate with others who had a similar background. I hoped that this sharing would help with the loneliness. If anyone out there needs a pen pal please answer and lets start communicating.
I am seeing a psychologist and she has encouraged me to do this.

Hi Art,
It is nice to hear from someone.
My wife and I were together 56 years and we loved each other dearly. I miss her tremendously. The one word that describes the past year is lonely. When you are together, even the times of separation which were rarely very long, a few days at most did not have the same impact. I guess it is the finality of the situation. To try and aleviate the problem when I am home alone, which is the usual case, I have the radio on with music playing almost all the time. As I write this I am listening to Blues on an internet program called Accuradio. The music helps.
I also joined a Unitarian congregation quite by accident. There are lots of guys just like me there. Non-religious Jews who feel like a part of the Jewish community but will have nothing to do with the religion. Almost all of them, including me, are either agnostic or atheists. I belong to an organization of these people totally comprised of retired men who meet for breakfast every Wednesday morning to chew the fat, talk politics, the world, and tell lots of jokes both clean and dirty. Mostly what we do for 2 hours is laugh. This organization has saved my life.
Thats probably enough from me for now. I look forward to hearing something more about you. I live in southern california near San Diego.
